So I've been reading a lot of David Conyers lately. I have reviewed some of his work on the Overseas Column over at ASif! and there's more to come. I actually quite like immersing myself in one writer at a time, you get a really good overview of their work and their themes and so on. I find him compelling but I can't quite put my finger on why - more of a writer to watch rather than a leading writer at present.
In my review I wondered if perhaps editing was a factor in why his work was hit and miss and quietly to myself I wondered if with the right editor, his work would be really powerful. Luckily, I need not wonder any more. I've been reading his story "Aftermath" in Agog! Ripping Reads and it's miles ahead of his other pieces - showing exactly the difference between a good editor and a great editor. This story is gripping, quietly suspenceful and amazingly powerful. It builds the scene without a lot of info dump. And illustrates an excellent example of the mark of a truly talented editor. Thanks
catsparx for putting the mystery to rest.
