March Quilting Block

This block took me ages to visualise but when I did get there, I really enjoyed it. It was very fiddly and I had to take a leap of faith with the fussy cutting but here it is:

For termagent - whose brief was to try something to do with fussy cutting or tessellations. My Mum helped me with the pattern and I sneaked a peak at catundra's fussy cutting. And I yelled and sighed and got stuck a lot before taking the plunge.

I think this is the block I am most proud of so far.

Thank you! I really had to take a leap of faith cutting the floral but I was so excited when it worked out!

Thanks! It actually was really simple once I got the fussy cutting done. I like the idea of fussy cutting but it was hard to do without a test go.

Yep, know what you mean. I did mine by using one of those disappearing purple material markers to trace my template. Good thing I did because there were are few errors of judgement which could have been really bad!

Ah is that how you did it! I used pencil on the other side which as you can imagine, did not go that well and broke my brain. Especially cause my diamonds were half one way and half reversed and I didn't realise that till after I had started! Oy!

Doing fred_mouse's now and actually, even though I had some restful blocks in those, I have started with the harder ones too!

Beautiful! I'm feeling very lucky with all the fab blocks that have been made this month.

I know what you mean about being afraid to cut the material. For the first few I did trial blocks with my own material before I used the material that was sent, but it wasn't possible for Redbraid's because it was so specific to the print, so I scanned it, printed it out and did a cut and paste job on paper until I was happy with it before I started cutting the material.

Oh I'm glad you like it!

And by the sounds of things, I have been far more flying by the seat of my pants than you have been!

You're on - mariner's compass at 30 paces!

But seriously, and much to my shame, I rush in faster and am more inaccurate than anyone else I know. It has something to do with waiting for my youngest to go to bed before I get to my sewing, and 9 days out of 10 I fall asleep putting him to bed, so the one time in ten I manage to outlast him I am so keen to get sewing that accuracy is the last thing on my mind. Often my very quick trial runs end up being my final result because it is all I have time for.

Heh!

You know, I just think its sposed to be fun. We quilt for fun, not as our day job. It's taken me a really really long time to not be as harsh on myself about the accuracy of my craft and this has sort of allowed me to get closer to finishing things and at least to feel less negative about the work I do. Its *handmade* after all!
