do you multitask craft?

I have this thing where I pretty much only obsess about one craft at a time. I go through stages or moods where I might crochet, knit or sew (quilting or crossstitching). And when I say stages and moods I mean at seasons or years at a time. Whenever I have picked up something that was not the craft I was currently working on, I have tended to drop that and move on and never look back. So it used to be that I would sew or do tapestry in the summer and then knit or crochet in the winter. And when I was doing one craft, I was not even remotely interested in doing any other. And at the point I picked up any other, I never looked back to the one I was on.

This is how one ends up with more unfinished, and never to be finished, WIPs than one has ever finished projects.

So my problem is this. I am so madly into patchworking right now. I have so many projects on the go and several others planned and am excited about starting in the near future. But ... I need to get a couple of knitting projects completed. And I am worried if I pick up the needles and cast on ... that will be the end of sewing, and maybe for a couple of years. And the thing is that I have looooots of planned knitting projects just sitting there waiting for me to want to knit again and I probably didn't mean to switch out of knitting in the first place. And I do want to make myself a couple of pairs of socks and shawls etc as well.

What I want to know is, do you successfully multicraft? Actively work on several different projects across crafts at one time? And how do you do it, if you do?
My mother thinks I should chill out. That craft is for fun and so what if I leave the sewing for a bit? That I'll come back to it. But you know ...
