More Awards!

Congratulations to Margo Lanagan for the Printz Honor Listing of Tender Morsals! It's a book sure to be discussed far and wide this year.

Still sick

Went to work. Sat at my desk for an hour and realised that I was not going to be able to sit there for 7 hours and came home to work. And must have been more unwell than I realised, or cassiphone's napping is catchy, cause I had a two hour nap. I never ever nap. And since waking up, rereading some of my emails and comments on blogs I have found they make no sense whatsover. Brain-typing coordination is not switched on, apparently.

Probably should not read complicated high level policy now and should instead call it for what it is: a sick day.

In yesterday's post, when I said I could eat whatever I wanted cause it doesn't matter? Yeah, that was the mania talking. Today the only things that look appealling are water and rice. I hurt so much I can barely walk - I look like a nana walking around and that's why I got sent home! I feel like I have been ripped from the inside out and my guts ache so much that I can tell you exactly how they have been folded into my lower abdomen cavity. I just fried up a big batch of rice, yay for only buying gluten free soy sauce, and that should do me for lunch and dinner today and lunch tomorrow. I suspect painkillers at this point will exacerbate the physical problem so I am putting up with it at the moment.

What a joy am I, eh?

I figured it out - I am a fangirl after all.

The moment of clarity occurred during the Aurealis Awards when I sat with benpayne, cassiphone and editormum and we followed along each category, commentated amongst ourselves and I texted home the results to kathrynlinge who was kindly uploading them to the internet. It was about the time I realised that we were probably the only people in the audience who had read pretty much most of these shortlists and much of the nominations lists they came from. And that we were probably the only ones who would scour judges reports, link back results to previous years and remember particular results for years to come. We are fans of awards and reading lists. It's what we do and care about!

And the ultimate moment for me was when Melina Marchetta went up to collect her award and it hit me that she wrote Looking for Alibrandi - like I knew she had and I noted it when her new book came through the ASif! review pile but that's SO NOT THE SAME as seeing the author who wrote an awesome book that you love and that truly spoke to you GET UP AND WALK ACROSS THE STAGE! It was really really cool!

That, and watching Trent accept his award whilst cheering in the audience with my best friends and looking at each other knowing that we edited and published it.

I'm an awards fangirl. There, I said it.

Aurealis Awards weekend

My weekend was kinda filled with bouncing squee. Even though I've been sick in bed since coming home, being with my friends, finally meeting people I know online, catching up and talking with authors about forthcoming TPP projects and attending a few industry things really rejuvinated and energised me. The weekend left me with so much to think about, so many ideas for press things and a lot of work ahead of me. Yay!

And ... I'm looking forward to going next year and seeing how the FQ wrap up their final Awards year. Should be good, I'm thinking.
