Galactic Suburbia Episode 4 is Live

We recorded episode 4 of Galactic Suburbia, our podcast on publishing news, reviews and discussions last night. We're getting much better at working the sound and um, muting when we need to go let the dog out or sort out a crying baby! This episode we talk about:

Episode 4 Show Notes

Tin Duck results
Australian Shadows Award 2009
Hugo Shortlist
-- Yonmei's post on feminist response to Hugo list

Alisa debriefs from Swancon 2010 and the launch of 2011 (Natcon 50) and provides a homework reading list for 2011, as discussed on a recent Swancon panel:
Sean Williams: The Resurrected Man & Metal Fatigue if people like SF, The Change series if they like fantasy, would be a good place to start. Sean also has a YA series (The Changeling), and has written several Star Wars tie-in novels.
Justina Robson:
Silver Screen is a standalone, but hard to get hold of, or start the first of the Quantum Gravity series: Keeping it Real. (Alex recommends Natural Gravity)
Ellen Datlow: Many many many anthologies. The Coyote Road: Trickster Tales, and The Green Man, and we mentioned the fairytale-style anthos and the year's best anthos.

Ethel Turner shortlist features several fantasy works
-- Nick Namatas's reasoning
-- Cat Valente on the devaluing of short fiction
Tansy's new book cover released from HarperCollins

Also we had an actual fan letter from Neal! We like Neal.

What have we been reading?
Alex: To Write Like a Woman (Joanna Russ); Justina Robson's Natural History; Echoes of Earth by Sean Williams and Shane Dix, Octavia Butler's Adulthood Rites
Alisa: Fables, Wil Wheaton's Happiest Days of our Lives, Breaking Dawn
Tansy: Ardeur, ed by Laurell K Hamilton; Heist Society by Ally Carter
